Members of Lockdown II conducted a stop and search operation in Khayelitsha last night and came across a prohibited firearm and ammunition in a Toyota Avanza.
In a media statement on the SAPS website, police spokesperson Andre Traut said that both the firearm and ammunition were confiscated from the 28-year-old driver of the Avanza while the owner of the vehicle was informed that the driver was arrested.
The owner eventually made his way to the scene of the arrest and tried to bribe Lockdown II members for the release of the driver. As Traut explains, the owner shortly found himself in custody as well and the R14 660 which was offered as a bribe had been confiscated.
As IOL reports, both men are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha magistrate’s court on Monday, “the one for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, and the other one for bribery,” Traut adds.
