The suspect accused of the double murder of mother and daughter Altecia Kortjie (27) and Raynecia Kortjie (7) from Belhar appeared in court on Monday, June 29.
Ryan Kyle Smith appeared at the Bellville magistrate’s court, where he was expected to apply for bail but instead abandoned his bail application. The case has been postponed to September 25 for further investigation. IOL reports that Smith will remain in custody until then.
Smith was the boyfriend of the mother, Altecia and father of Raynecia. The bodies of the mother and daughter were found in a house in Belhar on June 12. They had been missing since June 9.
“According to information at the disposal, police attended to the scene and found the victims in the house. The 27-year-old female had multiple stab wounds in her body while the child was found on the bathroom floor,” says SAPS Western Cape Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.
