The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has announced that all cable car operations will be suspended for two weeks in late July and early August to accommodate annual maintenance work.
The cable cars will therefore not be in operation from 24 July to 7 August.

According to IOL, TMACC Managing Director Wahida Parker stated that the company’s priorities were maintenance and safety.
Parker stated that the TMACC team places a high value on the safety and comfort of all visitors.
‘Our annual maintenance periods allow us to make important updates and upgrades to all aspects of our business and operations so that we can offer visitors an even better and more enjoyable experience by the time we reopen,’ she said.
Last year, operations were halted for six weeks to allow for extensive maintenance. However, the required maintenance work is less intense this time around, necessitating only two weeks of closure.
‘Whether it is a long or a short closure, our priority is always the safety and comfort of our visitors and our staff members. We conform to the best safety standards, and our annual closures help us check that we are meeting these requirements,’ said Parker.

Parker added that they were aware that the closure would occur during the Netball World Cup, which was being held in Cape Town, and that European tourists would also be arriving in the Western Cape. They were, however, putting safety first.
‘Hikers and climbers will still be able to enjoy the various hiking routes during this time. However, no trips will be made during the two weeks, so we ask hikers to be mindful of weather conditions when embarking on a hike,’ said Parker.
She emphasised that the lower cableway station’s food and beverage options and shops would also be closed during the shutdown.
She did, however, assure all residents who celebrate their birthdays during the shutdown period and wish to use their free birthday ticket that they need not be concerned.
‘Anyone celebrating their birthday in the months of July and August will still be able to qualify for a free ride in August. This means you have more time to celebrate your special day with us,’ she said.
