SANParks Table Mountain National Park reminds members of the public to respect the rules of the park and refrain from engaging in illegal activities, including public drinking and other criminal activities.
Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) stretches from Signal Hill in the city to Cape Point and extends out into the Cape Peninsula, encompassing mountains, valleys, bays and beaches, as well as indigenous forests, trails and the iconic Table Mountain.

‘TMNP is not only a protected area under the National Environmental Management Act 57 of 2003, but it is also a World Heritage site as part of the Cape Floral Kingdom,’ said the park in a Facebook post.
‘The park’s purpose, amongst others, is to preserve the ecological integrity and cultural heritage of the area, which means that certain activities are not allowed.
This comes as a result of reported incidents at Signal Hill and near Platteklip Gorge over the weekend.
‘The City of Cape Town law enforcement team confiscated alcohol from park users at Signal Hill during their routine patrol,’ said TMNP.
The law enforcement officers issued the perpetrators an admission of guilt fine for drinking alcohol in a public place and for driving an unlicensed vehicle.

In another incident, suspects were apprehended and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for consuming drugs and alcohol.
‘City of Cape Town law enforcement also responded to a tip-off by the hikers at Platteklip Gorge that two suspects were consuming drugs and alcohol in a vehicle parked nearby,’ said TMNP.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers searched the vehicle and discovered two bags of marijuana.
TMNP also requested that the public report any illegal activities by contacting its Emergency Number on 086 110 6417 or emailing [email protected].
‘For the love of nature: Take only photos and leave only footprints.’ urged TMNP.
