A taxi driver from Strand has been hailed as a hero after thwarting three suspected robbers’ plans.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 33 years, appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on charges related to armed robbery on Friday. As per News24, preliminary investigation indicated that the victims were on their way home on Wednesday evening when their driver was confronted and robbed at gunpoint when he stopped at a corner in Asanda Village in Lwandle.

Two accomplices allegedly accosted the other passengers and robbed them of their personal belongings, and left on foot. Some of the victims managed to flee the robbery and stopped an approaching minibus taxi driver to ask for help.

Following this, it was reported that the taxi driver chased two of the suspects down, apprehended them and handed them over to police. It is alleged that while the police were processing these two, the third accomplice surrendered himself and confessed to his involvement

The suspects remain in custody, and their case has been postponed to Friday, April 28.
