South Africans across the country are waving their flags and brimming from ear to ear as Team South Africa adds a few more medals to its Commonwealth Games cabinet.
Team South Africa is currently shinning the 16 medals they’ve managed to snag throughout the Games, which has placed them at 5th place on the overall medal list.
Day 5 saw the swim and lawn bowls teams steal the spotlight as they took home the most medals.
Lara Van Niekerk took home gold in Birmingham on Tuesday as she beat out competitors in the Women’s 100m breaststroke.
Tatjana Schoenmaker came just 1.21 seconds behind Van Niekerk to take home the silver. Other winners include Pieter Coetze who swam in the men’s 200m backstroke final taking his third medal of the Games and finishing in third place in 1:56.77, as per EWN.
Johanna Snyman, Esme Kruger, Bridgit Calitz and Thabelo Muvhango secured the silver medal in the women’s fours lawn bowls after they took down India by 17-10 in the final.
South Africa could not be prouder right now!
