The Masiphumelele fire has caused great devastation in the area, destroying about 100 homes and displacing an estimated 5000 people. The animals in the area have also been deeply affected, and need our help.

The fire has since been contained, and affected residents will be issued with a proof of residence certificate in future when they rebuild or are issued with emergency kits in accordance with the disaster declaration.

TEARS Animal Rescue is in Masiphumelele on Friday morning [December 18] to assist all the animals in need.

“We are in Masi now and the devastation is so REAL. Please help. Our hearts are breaking. TEARS Animal Rescue is calling for urgent assistance to aid us in helping these animals,” they wrote in a Facebook post.

“Our team was on scene last night during the fire and has been in Masi this morning for several hours searching for injured animals that are hiding and gathering dogs and cats that have been displaced by the fire.”
