A 50 year-old-man has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl during a photoshoot at a modelling agency on Loop Street.

South African Police Services (SAPS) representative Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana reports that the alleged incident occurred on June 24, 2020.

“Cape Town detectives from the Family Violence, Child and Sexual Offences Unit and the Provincial Serial and Electronic Crimes Unit reacted on information and conducted a search and seizure at a modelling agency in Loop Street, Cape Town, which resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old man on charges of rape,” Rwexana said in a statement.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Regional Court on Wednesday [July 1], and the police urge any other victims to come forward. Anyone who might have fallen victim to sexual violence in the modelling agency in Cape Town, which cannot be named at this stage, is requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Graham Davids on 0825221086.

This case joins many other alleged incidents in the modelling industry.

In 2019, former model agency boss and founder of Modelling South Africa, Dawie de Villiers received a sentence of life imprisonment for rape. He was also sentenced to 162 years for other counts related to rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, sexual grooming and the possession and accessing of child pornography. His crimes were committed between 2008 and 2013.
