A teenager died after being hit by a freight train in Diep River this morning.

The 19-year-old was reportedly struck by the train while illegally crossing the railroad between Southfield and Heathfield Railway Station on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services arrived on scene at approximately 7.30am, recovering the victim’s body and sending it for a postmortem.

Commuters were urged to make their own arrangements between Southfield and Heathfield while the scene was being cleared. Police are currently investigating the incident.
