The City’s Energy Portfolio Committee has reviewed the Electricity Generation and Distribution performance report, which revealed that the department’s capital expenditure on growth and refurbishment was 86,9% at the end of the fourth quarter.

The City is determined to continue making a significant capital investment in electricity infrastructure in Cape Town as it is essential for safe and reliable electricity supply to residents and businesses.
At the end of the fourth quarter, capital expenditure for growth and refurbishment had reached a whopping R532,6 million, says the City.
According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen, the departmental performance report further indicates that at 96,5%, the City’s High Voltage Transformer availability has been consistently above target over the last 12 months.
“This not only underscores our commitment to service delivery excellence, but it also tells a story of a city working hard to do more,” said van Reenen.

The Councillor is impressed with the progress made by the City’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department.
She also highlighted that capital investments in electricity infrastructure rollout and maintenance across the city would secure Cape Town’s grid and ensure that residents and businesses continue to live and work with the peace of mind of a reliable power supply.
Furthermore, in-line with their oversight duties, the Energy Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Councillor Zimkhitha Sulelo, said that they would continue to monitor the rollout of all future projects.
