The replica of the Webb Ellis trophy, which the Springboks won when they beat New Zealand in France in during the final of the Rugby World Cup, was kept in an office at SARU House that was not broken into.
According to IOL, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi placed the trophy in a cabinet at SARU House at the end of the team’s victory tour.
As per SA Rugby Mag, a spokesperson for SA Rugby confirmed the incident, adding that all the trophies in the offices are safe. ‘They (the burglars) entered the office complex, which houses Saru House among other things, and broke into offices on the ground floor, as well as Saru’s offices. All trophies are safe.’
A spokesperson for the Parow police says that two cases of business burglary have been registered. ‘On the mentioned date… two well-dressed males entered the business park and drove in a white Toyota Corolla to the offices of the business premises which is the last building in the business park.
‘They then proceeded to force open a window on the ground floor and entered the building. At the first company, five signed Springbok jerseys, whisky, and eight laptops were taken. From the other company, 60 laptops were taken. Thereafter they left the building and drove away.’
The police appeal to anyone with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer of 082 777 8499 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
