In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 23-year-old woman was fatally shot on her way to work in Thembisa, in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, early Monday morning, marking another spike in violent crime in the region, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The incident occurred around 05:45 on 28 September 2026, as the young woman became a victim of an alleged robbery.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili, the victim, who has been identified but whose family is yet to be notified, was ambushed as she made her way to her workplace.
‘Her belongings were taken during the incident,’ Muridili confirmed.
This senseless act of violence has ignited concerns among residents, particularly as it comes amid an unsettling backdrop of recent cases involving bodies of women discovered across Ekurhuleni.
While preliminary investigations into Monday’s murder have found no direct link to these alarming cases, the police are intensifying efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding this latest tragedy.
‘No one has been arrested yet, and we are following up on leads,’ stated Muridili, urging anyone with pertinent information to step forward.
