Several thousands of Pro-Palestine supporters gathered on the Sea Point Promenade in Three Anchor Bay this afternoon to demonstrate their solidarity and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The Global Day of Action for Palestine rally, organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), comes shortly after South Africa dispatched its top legal team to present evidence of genocide by Israel in a two-day public hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Surrounded by waving Palestinian flags, banners and reverberating chants of ‘Gaza, Gaza don’t you cry, Palestine will never die!’ and ‘We are all Palestinians’, Gift of the Givers’ Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, anti-apartheid leader Dr Allan Boesak, Equal Education general secretary Noncedo Madubedube, as well as historian and South African Jews for a Free Palestine (SAJFP) Dr Koni Benson addressed the crowd:

Several roses were laid across the Promenade to commemorate the lives lost in Gaza and watermelons โ a newfound symbol of Palestinian resistance โ were handed out, reported GroundUp.ย
According to The Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum admin Peter Flentov, ‘the crowd was peaceful and the atmosphere was almost festive’:


The Pro-Palestine gathering in the Mother City formed just one of the numerous demonstrations taking place across the country and globe today, all calling for a ceasefire and expressing support for the plight of Gaza against the Israeli war, now in its 99th day.
Demonstrations were planned in at least 121 cities in 45 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America, reportedย Middle East Eye.
