Three bodies have been discovered in Macassar outside of Cape Town in one week. Locals say that the extended power outages have made crime worse in the area.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says the third body of an unknown man was discovered by a passer-by at about 4:30pm on Thursday. ‘(The body) was floating in a pool of water on Macassar Road. The body had no visible injuries and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.’
According to IOL, a murder investigation was launched after another body was found in an open field adjacent to Macassar Road on Sunday. ‘The deceased was found with multiple stab wounds to the face and neck, believed to be inflicted [by] a broken bottle. The cause of death and motive is yet to be determined,’ says Captain FC van Wyk.
Just a day before, the body of a woman was discovered floating in shallow water at Macassar Beach. Captain van Wyk says the cause of her death is yet to be determined.
Community Policing Forum chairperson Russel Williams notes that these incidents are not due to a lack of police visibility as the area has a history of being a dumping site for bodies.
‘It’s a quiet area. If you stopped on the back road at night, no one would even notice. We need more visibility if we want to stop the bodies being dumped. The community needs to be aware and alert.
‘Macassar is a big area with a growing population. Our police station can’t cover all if it. That’s why doing crime in this part of the world is quite easy. We need more manpower.’
