Three hikers aged between 48 and 52 stuck on a ledge in the Ascension Ravine above Newlands Forest were rescued from a precarious position on Sunday, January 24.

The hikers felt that it was too dangerous to continue walking or turn back and so they called for assistance, according to SABC News Western Cape.

The Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) team responded to such a call from three hikers on Sunday. The hikers sent photographs of their view and a location PIN to assist the rescue effort, said WSAR spokesperson Johan Marais.

Search and rescue teams equipped with light technical gear were dispatched to the scene. They made their way around the back of Table Mountain in 4×4 rescue vehicles.

The rescue teams used ropes to lift the hikers from the ledge to safety. No injuries were reported.

If you are ever in need of assistance while hiking the WSAR can be reached at 021 937 0300 or 112.
