Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Chinese national and the injuring of his brother in Khayalitsha.
The 48- and 52-year-old brothers were kidnapped last week Thursday, 22 December in Mowbray.
The kidnappers later ordered the victim’s loved ones not to talk to authorities as they demanded a cash ransom.
The body of the 48-year-old was found in Khayelitsha on Monday, 26 December.
The police multi-disciplinary team investigating the case made a breakthrough and a joint intelligence-driven takedown operation was carried out.
Two days later, the suspects were caught and the 52-year-old victim rescued. He was found in a serious condition in Swartklip Road. He was transported to the Khayelitsha District Hospital for medical examination at the Thuthuzela Care Centre.
The three suspects aged between 30 and 37 will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and extortion.
The Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile applauded the efforts of the integrated forces for bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He adds that kidnapping and extortion are on top of the police’s priority list in the province.
