A three-year-old boy is in critical condition in hospital after he was knocked down by a vehicle in Strand yesterday. Paramedics arrived on scene to find the toddler lying in the road at approximately 4.30pm on Thursday, February 6.

“He had severe head injuries and other fractures. Paramedics stabilised the boy on the scene and called the Air Mercy Services helicopter to airlift the young patient to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital for further medical care,” said ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak.

According to Vermaak, the mother of the child arrived on the scene at a later stage.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident,” he said.
