A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at Sandy Bay when a young child was washed off the rocks, prompting an urgent response from the Coastal Crisis Coordination Panel (CCP).
The incident was reported at 3:44pm, setting off a race against time to locate and rescue the child.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was immediately alerted and CCP members rushed to the scene to assist in the search effort.
Skymed and rescue swimmers were deployed to scour the area for any sign of the missing child. Despite their efforts, the child could not be located and resources were stood down at 5:49pm.
The NSRI will continue its search, holding onto hope and determination. Our thoughts go out to the family of the child and all those affected by this tragic incident.
