Two men have been arrested after the South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit recovered two prohibited firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.
The arrests followed separate searches at two properties in Santa Barbra Street on Thursday, 24 September, after Anti-Gang Unit members received information about a firearm allegedly being kept at one of the houses.
SAPS said the operation resulted in two separate arrests, with both suspects expected to appear before the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.
The first search led police to a firearm and four rounds of ammunition at a property in the area. A 28-year-old man was subsequently arrested on allegations relating to the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The second search took place at another house in the same street, where police recovered another firearm along with 11 rounds of ammunition.
A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the second seizure and faces charges relating to the possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
Both men remain suspects at this stage and are expected to have their cases heard in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.
