Graphic content of two people shot dead in a black Mercedes is circulating on social media. The incident took place on the corner of Prince George Drive and Peach Street in Retreat on Thursday.
The two deceased were allegedly high-ranking gang members from Cape Town’s infamous 27s gang.
On the scene, two bodies were discovered in the vehicle. The pair is believed to have been travelling home to Kraaifontein after visiting an inmate at Pollsmoor prison.
Grassy Park station commander Colonel Dawood Laing said that the gang members were driving in a two-vehicle convoy because they are “high-ranking”.
“When the front vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Peach Street and Prince George Drive, two guys jumped out of a vehicle and fired multiple shots,” Colonel Dawood Laing said.
The vehicle is reportedly riddled with bullet holes, with at least 30 casings discovered at the scene so far, reports News24.
It’s unclear why no return shots were fired. CCTV footage is said to reveal more information.
This incident comes in the wake of fear and concern over uncontrolled gun violence in the country. Yesterday, two people were shot and killed in Camps Bay. Earlier this week, German tourists were murdered en route to Kruger National Park.
