Two Passenger Railway Agency of South Africa (Prasa) are currently in hospital and fighting for their lives after being shot and wounded while attempting to repair cables on Cape Town’s notorious Central Line.
The Mother City has had its fair share of troubles when it comes to this particular railway line, with cable theft a regular occurrence.
However, things took a sinister twist on Tuesday when officers were called to the scene at railway lines near Kalksteenfontein and found two workers shot by unknown gunmen, as per News24.
While the motive surrounding the incident is still unclear, it is believed that the suspects had been there to steal copper cables. According to police, the assailants stepped out of a black VW Polo and opened fire on the two.
A 44-year-old male was shot in both legs, while another, aged 36, was shot in his left arm. The two were rushed to a nearby medical facility, reports IOL.
Police are currently investigating cases of attempted murder and are urging the public to step forward with any information regarding the shooting.
