A passer-by made the alarming discovery and promptly notified the authorities upon finding the victim, who was dressed in black leather, lying face down in the sand near Fisherman’s Walk.
According to Police spokesperson Captain Wynita Kleinsmith, law enforcement was summoned to the scene at 5:30pm.
‘On arrival it was found that the woman was lying on her stomach and her top partially lifted. Closer inspection of the body revealed that there were no visible injuries, so an immediate cause of death could not be determined.’
She stated that officers thoroughly investigated the scene but found no clues regarding the circumstances of the woman’s death. However, they confirmed that there is no evidence suggesting that she was raped.
‘At this stage there are many unanswered questions but a post-mortem will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. We do not want to speculate on whether or not the woman was dumped there but we can confirm that there is no indications that she may have been raped.’
‘According to what we have ascertained is that she was wearing black leather pants and a leather shirt. Under the shirt she was wearing a white fleece top and black and white shoes. She has dreadlocks and it is estimated that she may be around 30 years old.’
Kleinsmith mentioned that officers reviewed the missing persons reports in the Grassy Park precinct but did not come across anyone matching the description.
‘We are asking anyone who knows who this woman is or what happened to come forward. We will be investigating if maybe the other precincts are looking for a person with this profile.’
Almost two years ago, police expressed worries regarding the nature reserve and the surrounding fields following the discovery of several bodies.
In June 2022, authorities uncovered the body of 40-year-old Ashraf Galant, buried within the reserve.
Two months later, municipal workers stumbled upon a foot protruding from the sand. Subsequent investigation by SAPS forensics teams revealed a male body, shockingly uncovering the remains of an unidentified female buried beneath.
In October of the same year, law enforcement located the body of another unidentified male. Through a series of DNA tests, it was determined to be Aldino Williams (20) who had been abducted from his home several months prior, allegedly by gang members.
