The City of Cape Town wants to inform the public that 80 puffer fish have washed ashore Long Beach, Simon’s Town earlier today, 30 March 2022, and Penguin rangers from Seaforth collected and bagged the fish for proper disposal.
The City would like to remind residents and visitors not to handle the puffer fish.
Those walking their dogs should ensure that their pets do not come in contact with the fish as it carries the neurotoxin tetradotoxin and should not be consumed.
The City will be monitoring the beaches from Fish Hoek to Simon’s Town in the coming days and will remove the fish, should more wash ashore. It is unclear what caused the fish to wash ashore.
