The brother of famous South African cricketeer Vernon Philander, Tyrone was shot and killed in Ravensmead on Wednesday, October 7.
The incident took place on the corner of 7th Avenue and Webner Street, and no arrests have yet been made. Speaking to EWN, Ravensmead Community Policing Forum (CPF) spokesperson Zelda Trantaal confirmed that Tyron Philander, who was 32 years old, was killed during the incident.
It is not yet confirmed what transpired leading up to the incident. It is believed that Tyrone and his mother were hanging up washing in the backyard when gunshots rang out.

In a tweet, Vernon confirmed the death of his brother and asked for privacy to mourn the death with his family.
“Tyrone is forever in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
