The Cape Winelands’ Robertson is currently seeing chaotic clashes between two foreign national groups as those from Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
According to an interview with one of those who suffered at the result of the conflict by Newsroom405, the fighting is over jobs and the access to them in the agricultural sector in South Africa for seasonal farmworkers.
The South African police were sent to Robertson to monitor the happenings on Friday, where air support was also dispatched.
On Thursday, 17 March, the police report that a number of individuals sustained injuries in the clashes, but these were moderate despite the fake news on social media that people had died.
However, people’s shacks have reportedly been set alight in the clashes as part of a series of attacks.
“Mediation efforts continue between the warring parties with the local SAPS, the municipality, the farming community and the department of labour playing a leading role,” said Brigadier Novela Potelwa SAPS spokesperson for the province.

Just got this video. Apparently groups of Basothos and Zimbabweans are at war in Robertson (in all likelihood over access to jobs). pic.twitter.com/QtWQHjQ4OG
