A leap of faith, for the thrill, or insanity. The Western Cape is home to some incredible activities that will get any adrenaline junkie’s heart racing.
Always wanted to fly but don’t have wings? Cape Town has countless skydiving centres to choose from. Need to satisfy your need to jump off high things? Then how about attempting Africa’s highest commercial Bungy bridge – Bloukrans – sitting at an easy 216 metres.
But what if you could combine these two thrill-seeking activities? Always looking to lead the pack when it comes to innovation, visitors heading to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge in China may just get a kick out of their latest attraction.
Nestled between two cliffs, a 430-metre glass-bottomed suspension bridge, which is considered one of the world’s highest bungee jumps from a footbridge, will have your heart jumping out of your throat or screaming for joy. It’s definitely a unique way to take in the mesmerising surroundings that the Wulingyuan wilderness, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has to offer.
If you’re brave enough to make the 260-metre jump, you’ll have the chance to catch a glimpse of the ravines and gorges that hug the famous quartzite sandstone pillars and peaks that look to stretch out into the heavens. A lekker view for anyone that loves being enthralled by nature.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 restrictions put in place by the Chinese government have put a damper on bungy jumping operations, but things finally seem to be picking up as domestic tourists slowly make their return to the region.
This is definitely a bucket list item that should be on every wanderlust-ers list.
Watch as thrill-seekers dive from this glass-bottomed suspension bridge.
