Candidates for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have started training on a 300m swim in Simon’s Town as part of the navy recruitment drive.

The feat is used to determine whether candidates are ready to take on the water.
Cape Town temperatures are a cool 18°C today, though SANDF quips that ‘there is no rain in the Navy’, and selection carries on’. Candidates are required to complete the 300m swim under eight minutes.
