The company lost a bid to an R282 million security contract that was awarded to Durban businessman Roy Moodley. As per the contract, his company, Royal Security, will provide security services for two years on immovable assets owned by WCG.
The Daily Maverick reports that at least six rival bidders submitted prices lower than Royal Security’s offer of R282 million. According to the department of infrastructure, 10 out of the 14 bids were disqualified as they did not meet the necessary requirements for functionality.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde confirmed the legal contest on Twitter, saying that the criminal justice system failed ‘by not prosecuting glaring cases of alleged corruption, mainly emanating from the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.’
He says the government has a right to be treated as innocent until proven guilty. ‘We cannot be in a position where government tenders are being used to launder dirty money, but simultaneously we are a government that respects and promotes the rule of law.’
‘Further to this, I have been informed that one of the losing bidders in a recent tender issued by the provincial government’s Department of Infrastructure will be challenging the decision in court. I welcome this process and the scrutiny of our supply chain management processes.’
