While much of the wildfires that raged in parts of the city this week have been brought under control, strong winds are fanning across Simon’s Town and crews are still trying to extinguish the the fire around the ostrich farm.

This while the South African Weather Service has issued a warning of damaging winds from this afternoon into Tuesday.
The level 3 warning is in place for various parts of the province including the metropole.

Crews were still monitoring the situation at Millers Point and Smitswinkel earlier this afternoon and remained quiet along Glencairn Express Way.
‘We still have nine fire engines out in the area, monitoring and fighting flare-ups,’ stated mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.

‘The SAWS has upgraded the previous warning to a Yellow level 3 warning, for strong winds over the next two days, with gusts up to 80km/h.’
‘It is imperative that any flare-ups are responded to with urgency and quickly extinguished. The next two days will still be tense.
