After having come out the other end of another two-day heatwave this week, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) now cautions parts of the Western Cape to brace for severe thunderstorms with possible damaging winds.

According to SAWS, the forecasted thunderstorms are expected to bring damaging winds and heavy downpours, which may lead to incidents of localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as structural damages, particularly over the southern parts of the Western Cape.
The weather service subsequently issued a Yellow level 1 warning.
Additionally, SAWS has also issued a Yellow level 2 warning for the coastal region between Cape Agulhas and Port Alfred. Damaging winds and waves are expected, which may lead to difficulty in navigation at sea with small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing in locality.
As we begin planning our weekend activities, residents are urged to remain vigilant and adapt plans accordingly amid fluctuating weather conditions, as well as to exercise caution and take the necessary precautions to ensure safety when out and about in the province.
