Whether you’re a novice or experienced hiker, safety is always the name of the game! On Saturday, 20 August, the Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) team received a call to assist two foreign hikers above Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
The call was made late on Saturday afternoon after the pair lost their way while descending Nursery Buttress just above Kirstenbosch.
Thankfully, the two hikers were able to provide a precise location during the phone call, allowing the WSAR team to save time in trying to locate them.
The team found themselves hiking up to their location before guiding the pair to a Jeep which would take them back to Kirstenbosch. It was a long night for both the hikers and the WSAR team as the incident concluded at 11:00pm.
But the biggest conclusion is that everyone made it off the mountain safely thanks to the incredible work of the WSAR team!
Whether you’ve hiked your favourite trail a thousand times or you’re checking out a new spot, make sure to save the WSAR’s number… just in case: 021 937 0300
