A woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged human trafficking case involving a 21-year-old woman who was rescued from a Rondebosch brothel earlier this year, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday, 12 October, following an investigation by the Hawks teams based in George and Bellville. A warrant of arrest had been issued against her over her alleged involvement in the case.
The investigation began after the Hawks, working alongside the Department of Home Affairs, conducted a search at an identified brothel in Rondebosch in August 2026.
During the operation, officials found the 21-year-old woman working as a sex worker. Further investigations revealed that she was allegedly a victim of human trafficking, prompting authorities to rescue her.
The investigation led authorities to identify a man suspected of trafficking the young woman. He was subsequently arrested and identified as Philip Udogwu.
Udogwu appeared before the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 21 September 2026 and remains in custody while awaiting his formal bail application.
Investigators also established that he allegedly had an accomplice who helped groom the victim into becoming a sex worker.
The latest arrest is linked to that alleged involvement, with the 30-year-old woman now facing the legal process.
The newly arrested suspect is expected to make her first court appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 October.
