According to Western Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the body was discovered by a passerby and the matter was being investigated.
However, it remains unclear whether the body was that of a woman who disappeared into the waters, at Camps Bay, last weekend and wasn’t seen again.
Last week, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) activated a team following a report from police of a missing woman at Camps Bay.
NSRI Bakoven station commander, Luke van Riet, said that police had responded to the scene where eyewitnesses claimed that earlier, at around 8.30pm, an unidentified white female, believed to be aged between 45 and 50, wearing a white bikini, had entered the water and they had not noticed her coming out of the water.
The investigation continues.
Anyone with information that could assist police are urged to call Camps Bay police station on (021) 437 8150, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the NSRI emergency operations centre on 087 094 9774.
