Two men have been killed and another wounded after gunmen opened fire on a taxi on Wynberg Main Road on Tuesday, 29 September, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to SABC News, Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said the victims were sitting inside a taxi when a red motorbike carrying two helmeted men stopped nearby. One of the men reportedly got off the motorbike and opened fire.
Two men, aged 43 and 46, were fatally wounded, while a 30-year-old man was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Taxi-related violence remains a concern in the Western Cape. Provincial figures show 138 taxi-related violence incidents were reported to SAPS during 2025/26, resulting in 51 fatalities, up from 104 incidents and 46 deaths the previous financial year.
Police have opened two murder and one attempted murder case. The motive remains unknown and no arrests have been reported.
The shooting comes amid renewed concern over deadly gun violence in Cape Town, following several fatal shooting incidents in Lwandle, Khayelitsha and Joe Slovo Park.
Police investigations into the Wynberg shooting remain ongoing, with detectives working to establish what led to the attack and identify those responsible.
