The V&A Waterfront has a full festive programme running all December long. The word is that Santa himself is reading stories daily in the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre.
There’s also the chance to win big with daily on-site prizes for visitors and shoppers – as well as the opportunity to win a grand prize of a Tanzanite ring worth R300k.
Be enchanted by Joy from Africa
The V&A Waterfront does December differently, and that’s why it’s the place to be all season long. Instead of tired, traditional festive décor, this waterfront world is full of one-of-a-kind installations for a one-of-a-kind city.
In its fifth year, Joy from Africa (JFA) is the V&A’s celebration of the most wonderful time of the year. Every festive season, they collaborate with a community of artists, makers and illustrators to enchant your holidays with these magical large-scale installations.
The creation of jobs and joy go hand in hand. Many hands have beaded and woven; they’ve drawn and crafted; they’ve reimagined and recycled – all for your viewing pleasure.
You’ll see a bright, colourful hot air balloon, covered in magical illustrations, alongside a moving cable car and an ode to the iconic Cape Wheel, with so much more throughout the precinct. Don’t forget the famous festive tree too; no December is complete without a photo in front of this holiday landmark.
‘The Dancing Skirts’, this year’s Watershed installation, is crafted from off-cut fabric and recycled textiles. It is a tribute to circularity and a moving reminder that sustainability is at the core of this creative movement, with repurposing and recycling leading to innovative, planet-friendly décor.
