Tucked away in the top right-hand corner of the Cape Winelands District, is the lovely Langeberg and its towns of Robertson, Ashton, Montagu, Bonnievale and McGregor. The towns have a rich history, which is reflected in the majestic church situated in the centre of Robertson, the art nouveau-style Montagu Country Hotel and the many cottages and homesteads scattered across the area.
However, it is the plethora of activities on offer, the deep love of community and the incredible natural beauty of the area that make visitors feel as if they have come home.

Getting there
There are a number of routes into the Langeberg, the most popular being the R60 from Worcester, which is home to restaurants, wine farms and a few famous farm stalls.
For the more adventurous, the back road via Eilandia will take you to the route that was carved by wagon wheels; do check that the river crossing is open though, as this part of the Breede River is sometimes impassable during the rainy season.
Of course, one can take the top-back route, Touwsriver, which is a well-maintained gravel road and brings one into the Langeberg via the Koo Valley.
A popular route is via Swellendam, which brings one straight to Ashton and its iconic bridge.
Another less well-known but very pretty route is along the pass into Bonnievale from the R317, which leads through gorges defended by tall aloes covered in golden orange flowers in the winter.
All of these routes have their own charm and offer a hint of the variety of activities available in the area.
