The Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud, in collaboration with the Embassy of France and local partners, will host the ‘Reimagining Heritage, Archives and Museums: Today/Tomorrow’ convening at Cape Town’s Homecoming Centre from 13 to 15 February 2024.
The first edition of the Reimagining Heritage, Archives and Museums convention is an international gathering of academics, artists and curators.
The three-day conference will tackle key issues facing museums and heritage spaces through a range of panel discussions, workshops, presentations, performances and exhibitions.
The programme promises a detailed exploration of themes such as repair and restitution, the challenges and opportunities around archiving, and the role of digitisation in heritage preservation, among others.
The conference will take place at the Homecoming Centre and includes satellite events such as a cocktail evening at the Iziko Museum and walkabouts at both the District Six Museum and the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
Registrations for the convening are open, and ticket prices range from R200 (students) to R500, which includes access to all three days of the conference as well as the opening ceremony, which will be held at the Iziko Museum on the evening of 13 February.
