Rassie Erasmus will reportedly relinquish his role as SA’s director of rugby to take charge of the Springboks, as part of a national coaching team shakeup.

According to a report in News24, Erasmus’ return as Bok head coach until the 2027 Rugby World Cup may require him to step down from his current position at SA Rugby.
Recent reports hint at Tony Brown and Jerry Flannery’s appointments as attack and defence coaches, respectively, overshadowing Erasmus’ extended tenure. Originally set until 2025, Erasmus’ commitment to SA Rugby now aligns with the next World Cup in Australia.
SA Rugby and the Boks aim for a historic three-peat in four years’ time, with the coaching team announcement for the World Cup cycle imminent, News24 understands that doubts linger on including a director of rugby.
