It looks like all hope is gone for South Africans after it was revealed that the Belgium Grand Prix will remain on the calendar as host for the Formula 1 race in 2023.
This comes after rumours swirled that Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali left Azerbaijan and travelled to South Africa for talks over a potential Grand Prix with Kyalami Circuit owner Toby Venter and organiser Warren Scheckter. This had fans causing a buzz that South Africa may be potentially lined up as the new venue for the Formula 1 race in 2023 reports, Car Mag.
According to Businesslive, the CEO of SA Grand Prix, Warren Scheckter, confirmed that there would be no 2023 event in South Africa.
“I have seen some of the reports put out, with most of the information being incorrect. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to provide detail, but there will be no 2023 South African Grand Prix.
It further stated that the Federation International Automobile (FIA) recently visited the Midrand circuit and discovered new barriers needed to be installed and sand traps that need to be replaced by tarmac run-off areas for the track to achieve the necessary Grade 1 license.
