The Next-Gen Everest comes in two different grades, with the new flagship grade being the Everest Platinum. This grade takes luxury and performance to new heights and is equipped with a new 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine and Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission, which is connected to a permanent all-wheel drive system.
With a tough and capable exterior, the Next-Gen Everest Sport boasts an interior that offers a sanctuary-like experience to passengers. The cabin is designed to be both comfortable and safe, making it perfect for daily use or long road trips.
The Ford Everest Sport is a mid-sized SUV that boasts an athletic and rugged design, making it a standout on the road. The Everest Sport comes equipped with a range of advanced features, including LED daytime running lights, fog lights and automatic headlights, making it a perfect choice for drivers who value both style and substance.
Under the hood, the Everest Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre tBi-Turbo diesel engine that delivers an impressive 154kW and 500Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth and seamless shifts. Additionally, it can tow up to 3 100kg, making it a capable SUV for hauling heavy loads.
Rugged outside, a sanctuary within
The Next-Gen Everest has a sleek and modern design, with a wider track and longer wheelbase that allowed designers to create a more progressive, muscular appearance. The C-clamp headlamps and strong horizontal upper grille bars reflect Ford’s global design DNA, while the mix of horizontal and vertical elements in the front end adds to its stable appearance.
Inside the Everest Sport, the spacious and comfortable cabin can accommodate up to seven passengers. The vehicle comes equipped with a range of features, including ventilation for all three rows, a touchscreen infotainment system and an eight-speaker sound system, ensuring that passengers enjoy a comfortable and entertaining ride. The sense of spaciousness is amplified by the full-width, coast-to-coast instrument panel and centre console with dual cupholder recesses, along with dash-mounted ‘pop-out’ cupholders for front seat occupants.
‘One of the first things you’ll notice when you get into the Next-Gen Everest is how quiet it is,’ says Doreen Mashinini, marketing manager at Ford Motor Company South Africa. ‘The high-quality and refined interior has been carefully designed to be a quiet place in which you can easily talk to your family or friends and enjoy the journey together.’
Accessing the third-row seats is now much easier, thanks to second-row seats that slide further forward than before. Furthermore, all occupants now have more places to store their belongings, and charging devices is a breeze with power outlets available in all three rows. These include a windscreen-mounted USB charging port, Type A and Type C USB ports in the front and centre consoles, along with 12-volt sockets up front, for the third-row occupants and in the luggage compartment. In addition, the Platinum model comes equipped with a 400-watt inverter, enabling passengers to power laptop computers and other devices.
Flexible seating has been prioritised in the Next-Gen Everest, with the second row sliding on a 60:40 split seatback and the 50:50 split third row in the seven-seater configuration able to be folded at the touch of a button on the Platinum series. Importantly, both the second- and third-row seats have been designed to fold flat, allowing for the safe transport of long loads.
Customer-focused technology
Ford made sure to prioritise the latest connectivity and technology features in the Next-Gen Everest, alongside a more refined and comfortable interior. Instead of traditional analogue clusters, the Sport model comes equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the Platinum version boasts an even more engaging 12.4-inch version. Both models also feature a large and high-resolution 12-inch portrait touchscreen, providing drivers with all the necessary information at their fingertips.
Moreover, the Next-Gen Everest is loaded with Ford’s latest SYNC® 4A system, which comes ready for use with its voice-activated communications, entertainment and information systems. Additionally, the system is linked to wireless charging functionality and seamlessly integrates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling passengers to use their smartphones’ functionality without any hassle.
There is also a factory-installed modem that allows customers to connect to their vehicle when using the FordPass App. With features like remote start, vehicle status checks, health alerts, a vehicle locator and remote lock and unlock functions via your mobile device, FordPass enhances the ownership experience.
The portrait-oriented screen is also linked to a 360-degree camera with a split-view display on the top-spec model, making parking in tight urban spaces a breeze or assisting when negotiating particularly tricky terrain while out exploring.
Confidence-inspiring driver assist technologies
The Everest Sport prioritises safety, and the vehicle includes a variety of advanced safety features, such as cruise control with an Adjustable Speed Limiter, lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking, to keep drivers and passengers safe and secure at all times.
The Everest is packed with new and improved driver assistance technologies and safety features that are intended to reduce stress while driving and help drivers stay focused. The Everest Platinum’s Active Park Assist 2.0 can help the driver fit safely in tight spaces at the touch of a button. The system handles the steering, gearshifts, acceleration, and braking so you can easily navigate into parallel or perpendicular parking spaces. When prompted, it will also steer itself out of a parallel parking spot.
Ford’s latest-generation adaptive cruise control system, which comes standard on the Everest Platinum, is new to the Everest. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centering can detect lane markings and assist in keeping the vehicle in the centre of the lane.
Ford’s Lane Keeping System, which includes Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, as well as Road Edge Detection and Driver Warning, is standard on both the Sport and Platinum models. Pre-Collision Assist with Dynamic Brake Support, Forward Collision Warning, Automated Emergency Braking and Reverse Brake Assist are among the innovative safety features available.
The Platinum also gets a distance alert and indicator, an evasive steering assist and intersection functionality.
