Harry Malila, the director-general for the Department of the Premier, initiated the day’s activities by expressing gratitude to China and the Shandong province for a quarter-century of collaboration. Malila highlighted the importance of a reinvigorated focus on the economy, tourism and growth.
Hisense, a brand already making its mark in the Atlantis area, seeks to further cement its partnership with the Western Cape through this museum project.
The upcoming Tevolution Museum will offer more than a traditional exhibition space. It plans to delve into the history of household appliances in South Africa while also providing a platform for youth to explore careers in technology.
The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), responsible for provincial museums, will play a pivotal role in identifying suitable locations for the institution.
The museum will also feature an art studio designed to encourage young talents in the fields of technology, animation and coding.

Guy Redman, the head of the Department for Cultural Affairs and Sport, summarised the tone of the museum: ‘The museum we are creating is a museum of the future. We want to inspire South Africans to imagine alternate futures for themselves and believe in their abilities to create that desired future. We want them to appreciate what could be and give them the tools to make it happen.’
Anroux Marais, the minister of cultural affairs and sport, lauded the initiative as a significant step in maintaining and fortifying ties between the Western Cape Government and China.
‘It is very important that we have this ongoing relationship and that we continue to strengthen it as it continues to bring new economic opportunities to our youth. We are also looking forward to hosting young people from Shandong later this year for sailing events,’ said Marais.
She also hinted at an upcoming event, revealing that young people from Shandong would visit later in the year for sailing activities.
The Western Cape Government stated that it eagerly anticipates the Tevolution Museum’s positive impact on both the regional economy and the futures of its young people.
‘The Western Cape Government looks forward to this exciting new project, which will not only bring in economic growth through tourism but will also support young people in pursuing new career opportunities.’
