The new, local Blank Break Film Festival, hosted at the Pride Shelter Trust, promises to be a colourful and thought-provoking journey through the diverse world of queer filmmaking.
As South Africa revels in Pride Month, this festival invites both emerging and seasoned queer filmmakers to submit their work for a chance to shine.
But what sets Blank Break apart? It’s a platform for films featuring queer characters and a space where queer cast and crew take centre stage.
And Blank Break Film Festival is more than just a showcase of films; it’s a safe and nurturing space for emerging queer creatives.
If your film spotlights a queer character or boasts a 75% queer cast and crew, your creation has a well-deserved spot in the festival. At Blank Break, the focus isn’t solely on the finished product but also on the journey of those behind the camera.

Ready to share your cinematic masterpiece? Submissions are open and it’s super easy. Simply slide into their DMs on Instagram via @blankbreakfilms or reach out to Hannah and Spencer on WhatsApp at 0761397834.
The submissions deadline is 21 October, 2023. This festival promises a diverse range of voices and your film could be the next star attraction.
On 28 October the festival will light up the Pride Shelter Trust, located in Oranjezicht. To secure your spot, tickets are a bargain at R30 and can be purchased on Webtickets closer to the time or at the door.
But here’s the twist – attendees are also encouraged to bring a donation for the Pride Shelter Trust. It’s not just about cinema; it’s about extending a helping hand to the community.
The Pride Shelter Trust, the gracious host of the festival, is a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ individuals facing homelessness or crisis situations. This shelter provides temporary refuge, support, and a sense of belonging for those in need, ensuring that no one is left without a safe space.
