Five people were killed in a house fire in Tafelsig, Mitchell’s plain on Saturday, July 24. According to reports, crews from the Mitchells Plain fire station were deployed to the scene around 04:08 and were told that children were trapped inside the burning structure.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, indicated that a man, woman, and three girls were declared deceased on scene, EWN reported. Carelse says a boy also sustained burn wounds and was rushed to hospital.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and the scene was handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation, News 24 mentions. The fire was extinguished, and police officers took over the scene to investigate the incident.
