In a bid to intensify the fight against crime in the Western Cape, police members arrested two suspects for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and presumed stolen property in Khayelitsha.
According to police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, the Provincial Integrated Task Team received a tip-off that illegal firearms were being stored at a residence in the area.
” Upon arrival members searched the premises and confiscated an R4 rifle and a .38 special revolver with ammunition,” Swartbooi said.
Swartbooi says both suspects, aged 30 and 45, will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court once they have been charged.
In an unrelated incident, a truck driver was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for trafficking drugs after officers found cannabis worth R5 million in the vehicle he was travelling in, News 24 reported.
Meanwhile, Gun Owners of South Africa recently delivered their memorandum to Parliament, to oppose the amendments to the Firearms Control Act.
