Finding a balance between work and fitness can be daunting because life gets more complicated and it constantly demands our time. Also, prioritizing our day leaves little to no time to do anything else. However, given the daily demands and the pressure they create, fitness is one thing we should always prioritize in our day.
Never forget, fitness is the perfect outlet for stress, frustration, and the daily grinds of life, but how can you balance exercising while working?
Here are some tips we thought we should share with you:
Develop an exercise ritual:
Habits are behaviours that one repeats over and over. If you don’t consistently get started then you will always struggle developing a habit.
Fitness requires you to move your body through exercise but the best way to make exercise a habit is finding the right one that suits your body and fitness needs, this way you can stay motivated.
Do home work-outs:
Lets agree to disagree, exercising is still exercising even when you do it outside the gym. You may have conditioned yourself, after years and years of gym memberships, that the only way to really work out is to be in the gym. No, that is not the case because working out at home, or in any place, is just as effective.
The heart is a muscle that needs exercise to stay fit and healthy, according to the heart foundation, in South Africa, almost 40% of South Africans are physically inactive. The heart of someone who exercises regularly beats up to 45-50 times per minute compared to someone who does not exercise regularly. Home workouts are able to fit into any schedule as long as you are dedicated but remember any workout is about you so take your time, put on that online video or app and get shaking.
Choose healthier food options:
Eating foods that are good for you and staying physically active may help you reach and maintain a healthy weight and improve how you feel but also will help with your
- type two diabetes, or high blood sugar
- high blood pressure
- kidney disease
- heart disease
- stroke
Bring your family along on your fitness plan and choose the right meal plan, this way you can have more people hold you accountable and make healthy choices together.
Have a hobbie and take on a class:
Whether you’re into dancing, swimming, cycling, running, yoga or perhaps netball, having a hobby is good for you . A hobby not only provides stress relief but it can also boost creativity, self-esteem, passion, pleasure and a sense of accomplishment.
Hobbies keep your mind and body active and are great distractions from the day-to-day stressors.
Get some more sleep:
Getting enough sleep is essential for helping a person maintain better health and well-being. When it comes to health, sleep is as important as regular exercise and eating a well balanced diet.
Good sleep can help with your brain functions including concentration, productivity and cognition but not forgetting good well rested skin.
Go on weekend hikes:
Hiking has become one of the most popular exercises in South Africa. However, it’s more than just a full-body workout, it’s also an excellent opportunity to spend time in nature, clear your mind, and improve your sense of well-being. What better way than to do this over a catch-up with friends and family.
Hiking helps with activating your legs and spine for a lower body workout while building stronger quads, hamstrings, glutes, better lower back and you can do all of this while breathing nice fresh air and enjoying nature.
