The event is part of the programme in the run up to FAME week, which celebrates African talent, innovation, creativity and inspiration. At the art exhibition, 25 young artists were granted the opportunity to create art focused on celebrating women for Women’s Month.
Ultimately, the exhibition was to identify new artists, nurture upcoming talent and offer a platform to showcase their work.
According to the City, the 25 participants also had the opportunity to attend a training workshop titled ‘Getting Exhibition Ready’.
In addition, the training was focused on Visual Art awareness: an overview of the South African Art Sector and The Business of Art: from studio to Gallery, amongst other topics, said the City of Cape Town.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Service and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross, proudly stated: “We are extremely proud to be part of this great initiative in celebrating art during Women’s Month and providing a platform where emerging artists can show their creative work. For a lot of artists, this will be a dream come true and the next step to even greater opportunities where artists can learn, share and express their individual talent.”

Furthermore, the exhibition is part of the City’s Emerging Artists Programme which helps under-resourced, emerging artists based in Cape Town to access opportunities that will help promote their work and develop their profession, she said.
The Emerging Artist’s exhibition is a great run-up to and raises awareness for FAME Week Africa as the festival celebrates the transformative power of creativity.
“The exhibition is a stepping stone towards great opportunities – this is why we support the exhibition in the run-up to the big FAME Week Africa event. As an opportunity City, we need to make sure we create platforms for development and empower talented individuals. We are aware of the huge role our creative and art industries play in job creation and in boosting the local economy,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The exhibition is co-curated alongside The Justice Desk’s photo exhibition titled ‘A Girl With A Dream’ and opened on 9 August at the V&A Waterfront which will run until 22 August 2022, after which it will be taken to the CTICC for FAME Week Africa which starts on 24 August 2022.
