Loadshedding will be suspended from 5am on Saturday.
In a statement issued at lunchtime today, Eskom explained that the decision to pause rolling blackouts was owing to lower demands over weekends and adequate emergency generation reserves.
“Since yesterday afternoon one generation unit each at Camden, Grootvlei, Hendrinna, Kendal, Kriel, Majuba and Tutuka power stations returned to service,” said the public utility.

“We currently have 5512MW on planned maintenance while another 13 484MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.”
“Loadshedding is only implemented as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns.”
The statement added that further updates would follow on Sunday afternoon or sooner, if needed.
