The app which recently reached hit its five million download mark was a side project for two local Cape Town locals, Herman Maritz (35) and Dan Southwood-Wells (37).
The load-shedding app that was inspired inspired by bankers was created to push Eskom notifications.
Martiz told the Weekend Argus that “In a lot of conference calls, we discussed ‘push notifications’ (the technology that sends notifications from apps) and how these notifications can be used to update banking customers. Some of these meetings had folks with raw Afrikaans accents and the pronunciation of the word ‘Push’ always made our day”.
EskomSePush is a free app that gives updates on load shedding before it happens based on the areas selected by individuals plus general national updates on power cuts on smartphones.
The user-friendly and accurate app is doing the most during the electricity crisis in the country and South Africans are appreciating it.
