Nothing says “summer” more than a sweet strawberry. These versatile treats are much-loved by many, and strawberry picking is the ultimate activity for family fun, as well as a cute daytime date.

These yummy treats will soon be ripe for the picking. Cape Town’s strawberry season is in full swing from October to December. Here is where to go to have a BERRY good time strawberry picking in the Western Cape.

This Stellenbosch farm is open every day from September to January, and offers a host of fun activities for the whole family. Go strawberry picking, ride a tractor, play mini golf, and ride a pony, among other activities. Your kids won’t even get the chance to say they’re bored. Those going strawberry picking must purchase a container and fill it to their heart’s content.

Helderberg Farm

This farm has been going and growing strawberries since the early 1960s, and uses mainly organic fertilizer and biological methods of pest control. Their strawberry season runs from October to December.

After strawberry picking, you can take a walk on their scenic 20km hiking trail. The farm also features a nursery, kiosk, kiddies playground and farm animals.

Located on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, Mooiberge has become very popular among strawberry-lovers. They open their strawberry farms to the public every weekend from October to December.

This farm also features a fan favourite – their unique scarecrows. People flock to the farm to photograph them. For those wanting to have some mature fun, there is also a wine farm, meaning that guests can pick and sip their day away.

Redberry Farm

This Garden Route farm has become very popular over the years. Guests can select their container size and take their pick from a variety of strawberries. Beyond strawberry picking, they also offer a host of other activities such as go-carts, pony rides and a hedge maze.

September 21-22, 2019, is their annual Strawberry Festival, a weekend celebrating this tiny treat. Guests can participate in strawberry stomping, a strawberry eating competition, and a pageant.
