“All aboard the choo-choo train!” The one thing that I absolutely love about Cape Town is that you will never be bored, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Lynn Cupido. The Mother City is home to some incredible hiking trails, spots to swim with dolphins, and now, miniature steam trains.
The Western Province Live Steamers Society has launched a miniature steam rail in Cape Town, which will now operate monthly, reports Getaway.
Allow your inner child to run wild as you pop into this fun little attraction located at the Klein De Grendel’s “Station” in Parow West, behind the Ajax Cape Town Soccer Academy. Grab your best train conductor’s hat and hop on one of the station’s miniature trains before enjoying a delicious picnic on the surrounding field that’s nestled between the tracks.
Not only is this a fun and interesting way to spend a lazy Saturday, but it’s all in the name of preservation. The Western Province Live Steamers Society is a non-profit that’s dedicated to the preservation and development of miniature steam diesel and electric locomotives. It’s also an incredible way to admire the handiwork of the club’s own hobbyists and engineers.
At the heart of this exciting afternoon activity is an aim to provide an incredible experience and family outing for enthusiastic members and budding locomotives. Whether you’re a train enthusiast or a regular Joe, you can enjoy this activity on the first Saturday of every month. There’s no entrance fee and rides cost R10 with operating hours from 13:30 to 16:00.
